Testing Your Car Lights

Car lights are an important safety feature in your vehicle, especially when driving during a harsh weather or at night. Your car has different lights which can optimize your driving visibility further than your eyes can usually see. Car lights help you see what is on the road clearly and give signal to other drivers and pedestrians that your vehicle is approaching.

Driving with defective lights can be a major hassle. If your headlights and turn signal lights are defective, your car can be a safety hazard. Police or traffic enforcer can give you warrant a ticket because of it. So before hitting the road, inspect the condition of your car's lights and make sure that all of these are working properly to avoid trouble.

When testing your car lights, it's better to have someone who can tell you which light remains bright and which is faulty. Begin testing your headlights before proceeding to other minor lights such as brake lights, parking lights, hazard lights and turn signal lights. Check the license plate light too. Most traffic enforcers are eager when it comes to a car with busted license plate lights. When you’re done with the outside lights of your car, check the interior lights.

While checking all of your car's lights, take note the ones that need repair or replacement. Check your owner's manual to find the right replacement for your bulb. Keep in mind that there are times when the light is not the part that needs to be replaced, but rather the fuse.
